Project Showcase, week nine!

Start finishing up those projects, snakes! Tomorrow's the last day of the month and I'll be looking for some impressive craftings in the class threads! For now, check out these fabulous FOs...

Riotously colourful yarn, hand spun by dingomaria for Potions. What a fun little bundle!

Suzi66 studied this mysterious Victorian collar in HoM.

Paige524's soft blanket is for a wee baby mooncalf. Well done in CoMC!

Knitsquid evokes twisting branches for her Herbology homework. Very clever!

Alrischa's lovely jumper is a mish-mash of techniques and features. Hope your daughter had fun sitting in on Flying class!

Inspired by the Australian $10 bill, bcts1022 spun this harmonious blue yarn for Muggle Studies.

EvilOverlady314 frees a house elf with these socks in DADA.

There's more yarn in these than meets the eye. Laurel10 crams double the fun into these mitts using some clever Charms.

Craft on, housemates! TURN-IN DAY TOMORROW, TICK-TOCK!

Slytherin Tournament of Hotties!!!

The votes have been tabulated and here are the results for the Wildcard Division.

The silver bar is for the first name listed and the green bar is for the second name listed. The numbers represent the percentage of votes.
The battle for hottest "The Voice" judge was a nail biter!  Adam had a clear lead after 2 days, but the Blake supporters took it home through the weekend.  The last minute Adam votes were not enough to keep the Maroon 5 front man in the competition.

That means the Wildcard hotties moving on to the Sweet 16 are; Blake Shelton, Josh Gates, Sexy Kilt Guy, and Tina Fey.

Now for the Sweet 16 round.  We're going to spice things up this round and introduce new divisions, Tops and Bottoms.  The Tops will consist of the TV and Movie Divisions and the Bottoms will be HP and Wildcard Divisions.

So let's get started with the Tops!

Alexander Skarsgard vs. Naya Rivera
David Tennant vs. Nathan Fillion
Chris Hemsworth vs. Hugh Jackman
Johnny Depp vs. Viggo Mortensen

Evil’s Cheat Sheet of Total Domination, week June 16-22

It was another week of packed classes. Keep in mind, there’s basically only one week left until the end of the month. Awesome Job, Noble Slytherins, we came in tops this week with 60 homework posts. The Hufflepuffs were right on our heels with 58, followed by Gryffindor with 52 and Ravenclaw with 42.

Overall in June we’re actually still behind the Badgers: Puffs 182, Snakes 175, Griffs 143 and Claws 109, but still are slightly ahead in overall totals: Slytherin 769, Hufflepuff 732, Gryffindor 685 and Ravenclaw 615.

Now’s the time to post your 50% OWLs! The story of my room is getting, um, magically interesting. Remember, always knock first. Mwah-ha-ha-ha-ha!

Unacceptable homework excuse of the week: I got a cease and desist letter from a bunch of muggle lawyers so I had to abandon my homework in the middle.

Go Slytherin Go! The Cup will be ourssssssssss.

Until next week, stay crafty Slythergeniuses.

Snake Staff Saturdays: Cattiekins

This week we're talking to Cattiekins, prefect and kicker of arses in the common room. Her sidekick babykins is well known, of course, and she's also head of hotties. Yes, I owe it to Cattiekins for keeping Naya safe for me between terms. Cattiekins is a B4 student, which is pretty ancient.

What made you join Slytherin staff?
I wanted to help out my house
What is your favourite project from last term?
of my own? probably the Georgiana shawl, i loves it
What's your proudest moment of enabling someone else in the dungeon?

I'm not sire, i suspect i've enabled someone just not sure with what

What is something new you've learned thanks to the House Cup - technique or otherwise?
spinning, my handspun is getting better thanks to the cup

Trapped on an island with one skein of yarn - what would it be?
OMG only one...I couldn't survive.....maybe th nice alpaca/silk/cashmere laceweight i just got but seriously only one.....??

Any words of wisdom for your fellow snakes?

Babykins says craft all the things

Thank you, Cattiekins!

Project Showcase, weeks seven and eight!

Missed my wrap-up last week so I had a lot of projects to choose from today. Get inspired, snakies!

PSG shares her Tour de Sock, er, socks, for Muggle Studies.

Finnsmydog is on a roll with these lovely shawls! This one's for CoMC.

TheEvilPretty1 creates a brand-spanking-new pattern for Herbology.

A handy little improvised pouch by urbanizer -- well done in Flying class!

Gorgeous blue yarn by PurpleliZZard16 -- one of many wonderful dyeing projects done in Potions class!

Knitreaver prevents certain disaster with her anti-fiendfyre potion in DADA.

Rockinsticks "found" this beauty of a vest at the Malfoys' rubbish sale -- their loss is your gain in HoM!

As a DM myself, there's no way I couldn't feature this little project -- a handy dice bag by ickle firstie krystalline for Charms!

That's all for now, housemates. Keep on crafting! (And if you're feeling particularly benevolent towards your Project Showcase blogger, cross your fingers for an England win on Sunday!)

Another week another batch of hotties have to go home.  Let's find out who's made the cut for the Movie Division?

The silver bar is for the first name listed and the green bar is for the second name listed. The numbers represent the percentage of votes.
It looks like no amount of "Hey girl"-ing could save Ryan Gosling this week.  The real battle was between Thor and James Bond this week.  The outcome was closer than the odds makers expected.  The hotties moving on to the Sweet 16 round are; Hugh Jackman, Chris Hemsworth, Johnny Depp, and Viggo Mortensen.

Now for the craziest division in the tournament, where anything is possible, the Wildcard Division.

Adam Levine vs. Blake Shelton
Josh Gates vs. Tony Stewart

Evil’s Cheat Sheet of Total Domination, June 9-15

Oh my, what a nail-bitingly close race this week! Those hard working Badgers are really testing our strength and we Snakes finally tied them with 71 homework posts. The Lions came in with 55 and the Claws had 48.

Muggle Studies were dominated by the Slytherins this week as most of the rest of the school favored Herbology, which was our next favorite class tied with Potions.

Overall we’ve still turned in the most homework so far this term, but there is no time to rest – as there is a big Quidditch time trial coming up and Mid-term OWL exams are almost due.

JUNE IS HALFWAY OVER. Plot accordingly. Professors don’t always keep regular office hours the last few days of the month, so best to turn in your homework early.

Unacceptable homework excuse of the week: I drank something in potions class and woke up a week later in the Forbidden Forest with my robes in shreds and a taste of grass in my mouth and what do you mean it’s Sunday???

(Beware the random werecow – Peeves has been hanging around Potions classes.)

Stay crafty Noble Slytherins! You’re doing an awesome job, keep up the great work.

Snake Staff Saturdays: PeanutzMom

This week we're talking to Peanutzmom, our Head Girl. She's a BA2 student, so she's been playing for nine terms, or three muggle years. That's a pretty long time! She's also an anaconda - nest pride!

What made you join Slytherin staff?
because we're full of awesome! Actually, I stepped up as Mama Snake for my next wen our original Mama Snake quit during the kerfluffle, and I've been a part of it ever since.

What is your favourite project from last term?
my Fassssscinating Fascinator

What's your proudest moment of enabling someone else in the dungeon?
Hmmm, I leave that up to SoftnShiny! What is something new you've learned thanks to the House Cup - technique or otherwise?
Dyeng and spinning!Trapped on an island with one skein of yarn - what would it be?
Sunset Stitches Bellatrix ♥ Voldemort, of course!Any words of wisdom for your fellow snakes?
Be good to each other and CRAFT.ALL.THE.THINGS!

Thank you, Peanutzmom!

The results for round 2 of the Harry Potter Division are in!!
The silver bar is for the first name listed and the green bar is for the second name listed. The numbers represent the percentage of votes
Neville beats out Lucius in the upset of the Tournament!!  In an uncharacteristic move, Neville came on strong.  Lucius fans did their best, but it was Neville all the way.

The Harry Potter characters moving on to the Sweet 16 round are; Draco Malfoy, Bellatrix Lestrange, Severus Snape, and Neville Longbottom.

Now for our Hollywood Hunks in the Movie Divison. There are some tough match ups this week.  Let the hottest hottie prevail!

Chris Hemsworth vs. Sean Connery
Hugh Jackman vs. Ryan Gosling

Monday Mix: Size Matters suggestions

One of the special awards available in the Slytherin Quest is the Size Matters award. The rules state that for size matters you must "complete a regular class homework that uses at least 600 yards. This award does not apply to Detention projects, any Advanced Studies or Quidditch projects this term."

So, here are my suggestions for size matters this month. We still have 20 days left, which should be ample time to craft projects of 600 yards or over.

Flying would be the perfect class for this, with the option to craft pants. If there's a little lady in your life who would appreciate them, I suggest Emma's Unmentionables. You customize the fit as you go, so do make sure to weigh them and make sure you've used 600 yards, but they use a DK weight yarn and make a totally cute pattern.

You can do them in a solid pale colour like this example, or there are stripy, textured, patterned versions in the projects. These might be great for using up a bunch of half balls of DK weight.

Herbology's option three: something pleasant to improve a forgotten area just cries out for soft furnishings. Blankets, cushions even a lampshade could be really great for this. I suggest a cushion. Again, you'll  want to weigh your cushion cover to make sure you've used 600 yards, but you could pick a crochet stitch or motif and simply make a cushion cover from two squares of the right size. Lucy of Attic24 has a fabulous tutorial for backing a cushion with a thrifted sweater, but you might need to crochet both sides of the cushion to reach your goal of 600 yards. If you need a pattern to follow, I suggest the Copenhagen Pillow. It uses 600-800 yards of Aran weight yarn but again, could be a great scrap-buster for the rounds of the granny squares.

Option one in Charms asks for a bag in which to practice your undetectable extension charm. There are heaps of great bags out there, and I had great fun looking through them. The one I've chosen to recommend is the Rainbow Hexagon Beach Bag - what can I say, I love rainbows. It uses worsted weight yarn, and, being a beach bag, would also work very well for Potions this month. Pure cotton is a pretty summery fibre, after all.

Finally, for Care of Magical Creatures, I suggest knitting a shawl. Something like scrample you can just keep on adding to until the deadline. It was designed to use scraps, samples and leftovers, and will work with any weight of yarn.

Done in a dark colour or a grey to hide in the moonlight it would fit under option 1: blend into your surroundings. Done in another colour, it would be a comfortable object for a mooncalf to have in their burrow, for option two.

I hope that you get some ideas from this as to how you can fit size matters into classes this month.

Enable one another.

Evil’s Cheat Sheet of Total Domination, June 1-8

Evil is having a bit too much fun on the Quidditch field, showing off by flying by the seat of her pants when she misses catching her broom in mid-swing and BANG, she smacks into one of the goal posts and slides to the ground in a crumpled heap. She is not badly hurt, but a few Slytherins help her get to the Hospital wing for a few days of rest.

Her nest mate, Cattiekins, returns to the Quidditch Pitch to read off a crumpled and slightly bloodied piece of parchment.

“It was a great first week of classes and Potions homework poured in from each of the Houses becoming the most popular class this week. The Badgers won the week with 53 assignments, followed closely by the Snakes with 44 and just as closely the Lions with 36, while the Ravenclaws had a bit of a slow start with 19.”

“Evil will be back in action soon and hopes to be overwhelmed with Slytherin catch-up homework. Also, Madam Pomfrey wishes to remind everyone to fly responsibly and turn in your homework early so there is less chance of stress related injuries.”

Go Snakes go!

Snake Staff Interview: Suenosdejmi

This week in Staff Saturday, we talk to Suenosdejmi, our head of house. Self described as "Leader of the Minions, erm, Slytherin Ho, erm, crap...", she's a B3 student meaning she's been playing in the cup for ten in-game years. If that's not impressive enough, that makes over three muggle years of commitment to the game.

What made you join Slytherin staff?
Way back a long long time ago, I became a Slytherin Prefect. I knew it would equal fame and glory. Boy, did it!

What is your favourite project from last term?
A WIP that I'm still working on, my Whisper Cardigan. Miles and miles of tiny lace = gorgeous

What's your proudest moment of enabling someone else in the dungeon?
I'm pretty sure that there's some crochet mini socks going down in the first Quidditch challenge. I'm feeling pretty geeky about that...

What is something new you've learned thanks to the House Cup - technique or otherwise?
Oh goodness. There are too many things. I learned to knit shortly after joining the House Cup (not directly because of it, just at the same time) and I've learned so much since then!

Trapped on an island with one skein of yarn - what would it be?
The biggest skein of laceweight possible. Don't really care about the brand, something lovely and green. Why laceweight? Because it would last longer!

Any words of wisdom for your fellow snakes?
Craft hard, play harder!

Thank you, Suenosdejmi!

Project Showcase, week six!

Goodness, snakes, some cat-related situations caught up with me yesterday and I couldn't make my post. But ho! Here are some of the fabulous projects turned in this week:

Oshelle turned in this spunky little hat for CoMC.

Alrischa distilled the essence of the flutterby flower into this lovely skein in Herbology.

Nothing better than a summer gin and tonic, as cookknitwine shows... lots of Slytherins turned out for Potions this week, well done!

SandraSts found this little guy while researching in Borgin and Burke's for HoM.

There's more yarn than you think in this cowl... TrishBadish doubled up with the fingering weight in Charms.

These will sure keep you comfy on a broom handle! txfish's furry, furry pants in Flying class.

MaraE keeps her Muggle coins secure with a folding pouch in Muggle Studies.

Until next time, housemates! Craft on!
