Kilted Hottie of the Week!

Hello Slytherins!

Sorry about dropping the ball on making the voting process more clear this past week, my only excuse is that I caught plague from a bunch of Vikings and was too weak to type or click a mouse.

The hotties finally revived me with much kilt waving, and the winner of the Kilted Hottie of the Week is the ever-classically-sexy, ever-so-Scottish, . . .
Ewan McGregor!!!

Up for seriously Hot Honorable Mentions were David Tennant, John Barrowman, Gerard Butler, Alan Rickman, and a mysterious barbarian hottie with a snake who had lost his kilt somewhere . . .
For the beginning of March, this week's hottie theme is: Hogwarts Hotties!
Nominate your favorite actors and actresses playing characters in the Harry Potter movies, but NOT in their characters' costumes (they should however, be wearing something). Post your nominations in the Bring forth the Hotties Thread until Thursday night, and then the official voting will begin!

Weekend Report

Good morning Snake Pit this is Weekend Report.  In our top story THE END.  This is the last weekend for February homework and the weekend report where we bring you bitty projects for the last minute crafter.

So without further ado.

Herbology: How about a candle complete with flame?  I'm guessing you could make it into a chapstick cozy fairly easily if you are feeling all practical and stuff.

Potions:  I'm thinking I could smuggle a lot in this colorful muff.

DADA:  Does your dark wizard dream date involve sushi and sake?

History of Magic:  You can't tell me you can't come up with at least one strange side effect to link with candy corn.

Astronomy:  Quickie little fortune cookie?

Transfiguration:  Yarn bomb antenna cozy.  Come on you know you want to make 50 of them and go to the long term airport parking.

Care of Magical Creatures:  Those colorful Fwooper birds feathers make for awesome pencil holder cozys.

Charms:  In case you are a fan of Bird on a Wire  by Lenard Cohen.

Weather:  Random spittle of stash will be seen over most parts of the forbidden forest this weekend.

In the Owlery we see that twenty four Slytherins have reached the 50% mark by the time of this posting.  Whoo hoo!  get it Hoo, like an owl, you know.... ahem.

Forgivable Curse of the Week:  Oh Blazing Basilisk Butt! Thank you for that Abycat, I've personally used it at least twice this week.

Finally, from the Sub Human Interest Desk - new lambs awwwwww.  Well they are dark so its kinda Slytherin.  Oh yeah, lets see you come up with something for this spot every week.   This is Rockinsticks surly and signing off with love to all my snakey pals.

Do You Feel the Need?

. . . THE NEED FOR SPEED!!!

Our awesome Head of House, GirlyWithATwist, sure does! February's HOH Challenge is all about things that remind us all of her boyfriend favorite hottie, Jeff Burton, also known around Slytherin house as The Race Car Driver! See below if you need further proof of his hotness:

Speedy snakes all over the house showed off their fastest projects, either in literal crafting speed or in reference to going 200 mph.

SnowQueen73's Mr. Bun-Buns is quick like a bunny, and was the first one out of the starting line for this challenge, her crafting speed increased greatly by knitting in the round instead of seaming flat pieces.

Oshelle was reminded of the flames coming off of a race car's tracks, immobilized in this hotrod of a washcloth, which adds speed to her matching shoes!

Rockinsticks shows us what disappears extra quickly around her house, a box of delectable bon-bons!

Momofpeg set up a race to see how fast Ken can run to catch Barbie when she's wearing this hot little number:

Abycat found her inspiration right in the dungeon, as nothing moves faster than the sexily arched eyebrow of Prof. Snape, immortalized in this great coffee cosy.

01Tangled not only made a speedy little pink race car, but she completed it as quickly as lightning!

Maigret's Frank the Slytherbunny is so fast, he bounces all over the house cup threads before you can blink, using his own special bunny teleport device.

Well, sorry to blog and run, but I need to get somewhere, fast!

Hottie of the Week!

The Slytherins have spoken, and the latest Hottie of the Week is Michael Fassbender, a relative newcomer to the hottie thread, who can really work the black and white photos:

The 33-year-old actor was born in Germany and raised in Ireland. He appeared in 300 in a leather loincloth and will be seen in period costume in a new version of Jane Eyre coming out next month, in which he plays the mysterious Mr. Rochester opposite Mia Wasikowska (from Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland). He will also be seen in X-Men: First Class this coming summer as a young Magneto.

For next week's theme, please start nominating your favorite Hottie in a Kilt in the "Bring forth the Hotties!" thread in the Snake Pit. After Wednesday, voting will begin!

Weekend Report - Trelawney Style

Welcome to another edition of Weekend Report.  In our top story, Mid-month-pause.
Complaints have been comming in from all corners of common room about the mid-month-pause.  This condition causes a crafter to look at the remining classes and turn to an often times neglected OWL for support and comfort.

One Slytherin was quoted as saying, "I'm simply out of inspiration for the classes I haven't done."

In an effort to battle the listnessness we present some liquid inspiration loosly tied to the class assignments.  Please remember an age line has been cast around the rest of this post.  If you are under legal drinking age and attempt the following "crafts" you will grow hair in unwaxable places and the hotties will shun you.

Herbology's Flame of Love
1/2 oz  sherry
1 1/2 oz vodka
Swirl the sherry in an old-fashioned glass to coat. Add vodka, garnish with orange peel, and serve.

Potions' Secret Place
Pour all of the ingredients into an Irish coffee glass filled with crushed ice. Stir well

History of Magic's Double Fudge Martini
1 1/2 oz vodka
1/2 oz Kahlua® coffee liqueur
1/2 tsp espresso ground coffee
1 1/2 oz
chocolate topping
1/3 oz DeKuyper® Buttershots liqueur
1 1/2 - 2 oz cream
1 tspgrated chocolate

Shake the vodka, Kahlua coffee liqueur, espresso coffee and chocolate topping with ice and strain into a chilled cocktail glass. In a fresh shaker, shake cream and DeKuyper Buttershots (butterscotch liqueur) until thickened and float on top of the chocolate mix. Garnish with grated chocolate and chocoloate topping, and serve.

Defense Against the Dark Arts' Liquid Temptation

Blend everything but the banana slice in a blender at high speed with about 1 cup of crushed ice. Serve in a red wine glass with the banana slice as garnish.

Care of Magical Creatures' Bird of Paradise
1 shot vodka
fill with orange juice
1 splash grenadine syrup
ice cubes

Combine

Astonomy's Rampant Rabbit

Pour all ingredients into a cocktail shaker, shake and strain into an ice-filled collins glass. Garnish with two pineapple leaves placed down the side of the glass so that they look like rabbit's ears

Charms' Same Old Song

Pour the vermouth, gin, juices and orange bitters into a cocktail shaker half-filled with ice cubes, and shake well. Strain into a cocktail glass, garnish with a slice of orange, and serve.

Transfiguration's Electric Screwdriver

Pour the shots into a highball glass, fill with orange juice (to taste), and serve.

Bunches and bunches of Bunnies!

Hello fellow Slytherins!

This month's Unity Theme is "A Rabbit's Amortentia," and we are celebrating not only the usual romance-themed holiday of February, but the Chinese New Year, which heralds the Year of the Rabbit in 2011. This should be a lucky year because, well, a rabbit has four lucky feet, so four times the luck! But seriously folks, lots of great projects have been posted to celebrate this theme, and I'd like to share some of them here (that have not already been shared in a previous blog post).

We even had some inter-house participation! This yummy-looking chocolate bunny was left in the Dungeon in the general vicinity of Prof. Snape's office by a Ravenclaw, luminea.

Rivetkitten knows what boys bunnies want ... a little tail!

Joseybug helped nurture the bunny nugget invasion of the Dungeon!

Spike contributed a sweet, innocent-looking bunny peep (I'm sure it's just marshmallow and sugar, nothing hidden inside):

Peanutzmom made this adorably cuddly bunny blanket:

GothKnitty made her Flame Bunny to represent the New Year as well as the fires of Imbolc, and also contributed a very cute, if humbly-named, Roadkill Bunny Blanket:

Canadiadry stuffed this sweet little bunny, not with a love potion for humans, but with catnip to win her cats' playful affections:

Seakame celebrated the Chinese New Year by cleaning out any bad luck from the old year with her pretty Chinese Waves dishcloth.

Rockinsticks portrayed her rabbit Lucky dancing under the constellation Lepus to celebrate the new year in her clever calendar cover (try to say that quickly five times):

Snowqueen73 charmed the house with this adorable Mr. Bun-Buns:

Oshelle crafted another cute bunny to add to the army, as well as another yummy chocolate bunny inspired by luminea's project:

I'm sure there will be many more great projects added before the month is up, so keep checking the thread for February Slytherin Unity to see what else is in store!

Weekend Report

I’m Rockinsticks and this is Weekend Report.  In our top story the Slytherin Quidditch team took to the pitch in the Crochet Sock Challenge.  Linuxchic, Velouria22, Vox8, Cubejelly, BronwenD andKims wielded their hooks with ruthless accuracy whipping out green and grey socks for the glory of Slyhtherin.  Let’s look at the highlight reel.
BronwnD

Velouria22

CubeJelly

Kims

Linuxchic

Vox8
Outstanding!  One spectator was quoted as saying, “For a group of gals represented by a reptile without legs they sure know how to turn a heel.”
Weather:  A glorious mohair free sky hangs over the valley this weekend, perfect for an excursion to Hogsmede.
In other stories many a NQFY has stopped by the Snake Pit to see what we are all about.  Remember, be kind and Slythertastic to these youngins.  They may just become our strongest players in the future.
Forgivable Curse of the Week:  Oh my Gusset!
Finally from the Sub-Human Interest desk, lack of hotties.  We here at the Dungeon Bulletin Board are sad to announce the early retirement of Wonkyfeint who brought us gaggles of glorious hotties every Monday morning.   Do you fancy yourself a writer?  Would you like to put together the hottie of the week post each week?  The delightful thing about this position is – if the hotties are hot enough no one will know if you can spell.  If you are interested in joining the blog team send a pm to Rockinsticks who will consult with the higher powers in filling this exciting job.
This is Rockinsticks signing off, back to Hogsmeade with you.

V.D. runs rampant through Slytherin House!

. . . and by that I mean Valentine's Day, of course!
Whether you adore cupids and pink hearts, just love a good excuse to eat all that chocolate, or would rather celebrate Singles Awareness Day, projects with a nod to the lucrative holiday cropped up all over the House Cup turned in by Slytherins.

Potions class was the perfect opportunity for clever snakes to demonstrate our natural tendency to be cunning, and craft a myriad of ways to sneak love potions past Filch. Some lovely examples can be seen from:

abycat's tissue caddy not only deflects Filch's notice, but is a built-in delivery system for the love potion's target -->

Snowqueen73 distracts the eye with her glamorous bag designed for hiding all kinds of contraband-->

charmling leaves room to sneak a vial or two in her armwarmers-->

BrittneyK smuggles a love potion in a healthy-looking carrot cozy-->

EvilOverlady314 knows Filch would never suspect an innocent-looking doll of carrying secrets under her hat or scarf-->

Oshelle takes inspiration from classic fairy tales and crafts a cozy for a potion-laced apple-->

jonboy1987 went old-school with a fresh (and much nicer) take on the poison ring-->

knitsquid goes with the classic dosed-but-irresistible baked goodie-->

rivetkitten hopes Filch won't get too personal with his searches, so as not to discover this sneaky garter-->

EmiDoodle was practical with her knitted pocket, relying on her squeaky-clean record to raise her above suspicion-->

trustcrazyideas smuggles laced candies with the help of Captain Clyde Sparrow

01Tangled's Love Potion Sachets (don't let Filch breathe those in too deeply)-->

maigret's Tiny (but very lovely and festive) Valentine Bag-->

For Charms class, rockinsticks and Nick Cave (her musical muse) remind us of just how painful love can be:

For Astronomy class's February assignment, Valentine's Day was the calendar holiday honored by some of our fellow snakes.

For instance, linuxchic made this sultry sweater, perfect for getting the attention of that special someone on that special day:

knitsquid put a lot of heart into this lovely crocheted piece:

... and so did 01Tangled as she demonstrates the best way to hold someone's heart in your hand:

I hope you all forgive my corny humor on this, let's face it, rather corny holiday, and whether you love or hate the big day o' romance, enjoy all the great crafting of our housemates!
