This is Rockinsticks and welcome to Weekend Report.  In our top story this week the Headmistress snuck out of her shackles office and issued the call for all Hogwarts students to show another side of themselves.  The dungeon walls began to ooze metaphor as Slytherins began to draw parallels between the boy-who-is-slightly-overrated and the-boy-from-Tatooine.  One snake was quoted as saying, "Darth Vader and Lord Voldemort walk into a bar.  Sauron turns to them and says, 'Pesky short orphans!'"

As of this writing two projects have been submitted.  First in was the illustrious Maigret who found parallels between two hotties with large noses (you know what they say). And between stone angels and those angles of desolation, the dementors.
And 01Tangled reminded us that diamonds might be a girls best friend, but make sure you know their origins be it Mount Doom the Cottage of Slytherin.

Weather:  Mohair is to sweaters as fog is to driving.

In other Stories, OWL on the half shell.  Slytherins continue to rock the half OWL mark.  37 of you have ripped at least one wing off that nasty bird.  That's 1850 points for us with 5 days to go.  So drop that Horcurx and get back to your OWL.  We will bring the cup back to the noble Casa de Slytherin and sponge bathe the hotties out of it.

Forgivable Curse of the Week:  Pull your head out of your bottom whorl!

And from the Sub-Human Interest Desk, - I am lazy, but kindhearted.  Many of  you know that our lovely DrusillaWormwood has been fighting her way through a particularly nasty dark wizard known only as Sir Jerry.  As I stood in the Father's day card aisle last week I was thinking how great it would be if all the Slytherins signed a get well card for her.  Knowing that by the time it circulated the globe for signature we'd likely all be dead, I've decided to try something tricky - if not lazy.  Dru brings a lot of humor to the dungeon and I would like to return the favor.  If all Slytherins interested will PM me a joke by July 15th I will hand print them all with your names on a ginormous card and mail it off to the lovely Ms. Wormwood.  So that's it.  Just send me a joke and with any luck we can help her giggle a bit.  It can be a one liner, something you got from a waitress, or whatever happenend to be on your laffy taffy wrapper.  Oh and the best thing is - no PG-13 line and I am extraordinarily hard to offend (with the exception of racial slurs - don't do it, you won't be included if that is your taste).

This is Rockinsticks saying squeeze that OWL to 50%, snakes were made for squeezing after all.

Weekend Report

I’m Rockinsticks and this is Weekend Report.  In our top story the Slytherin Quidditch team took to the pitch in the Crochet Sock Challenge.  Linuxchic, Velouria22, Vox8, Cubejelly, BronwenD andKims wielded their hooks with ruthless accuracy whipping out green and grey socks for the glory of Slyhtherin.  Let’s look at the highlight reel.
BronwnD

Velouria22

CubeJelly

Kims

Linuxchic

Vox8
Outstanding!  One spectator was quoted as saying, “For a group of gals represented by a reptile without legs they sure know how to turn a heel.”
Weather:  A glorious mohair free sky hangs over the valley this weekend, perfect for an excursion to Hogsmede.
In other stories many a NQFY has stopped by the Snake Pit to see what we are all about.  Remember, be kind and Slythertastic to these youngins.  They may just become our strongest players in the future.
Forgivable Curse of the Week:  Oh my Gusset!
Finally from the Sub-Human Interest desk, lack of hotties.  We here at the Dungeon Bulletin Board are sad to announce the early retirement of Wonkyfeint who brought us gaggles of glorious hotties every Monday morning.   Do you fancy yourself a writer?  Would you like to put together the hottie of the week post each week?  The delightful thing about this position is – if the hotties are hot enough no one will know if you can spell.  If you are interested in joining the blog team send a pm to Rockinsticks who will consult with the higher powers in filling this exciting job.
This is Rockinsticks signing off, back to Hogsmeade with you.

Weekend Report

I'm Rockinsticks and this is  Weekend Report.

In our top story this week:  House Unity Themes and the parties that love them.  Slytherins are taking up implements of craftstruction this week to commemorate the birth of that half blood prince, potions master, and fun in a frock coat Severus Snape.  One baker in Hogsmede was quoted as saying, "I don't know how we're going to structurally support a cake of the size required for so many witches to jump out of at once."

Celebrations will be continuing through the month of January and spreading into the classrooms throughout the castle.

Weather:  Too much snow, too much cold, and too much flooding.  All good reasons to stay in and craft by the fire.

In other news Slytherin is rocking the points totals this week.  Glancing at base points we have the following unofficial totals:
Divination:  9 projects totaling 135 points
Transfiguration: 10 projects and 150 points
History of Magic:  14 projects giving the snakes 210 points
DADA and Charms:  Both with 18 projects and 540 total points
Potions and Flying:  Both have 19 projects each tallying 570 points
and Herbology with a whopping 20 projects turned in with 300 points.

Unbelievable snakes!  1,905 points and only the middle of the month.

Forgivable Curse of the Week: Purl Biscuits!

In our Wildlife segment 70 count them 70 Slytherin OWLs have been spotted in the area.  If you see a someone in the common room working on their OWL give them an encouraging word.  If every one of those projects is completed this term the house scores 10,500 points!  And even if they only make it to Feb. 28th there are 3,500 points to be earned.

A special salute to Eurekas who is our sole approved NEWT student this term making an attempt at Astronomy and History of Magic.  Craft on you crazy koala snake you.

In the Horcruxes and Hallows Lab this week cake and hotties were shared by Maigret, Knitknot, Pocamilla, Cubejelly, Nightowlknitter, and Vehementwombat.  Sources say Severus Snape was spotted leaving the Lab on the arm of some of his favorite witches.

Finally, from the Sub-Human Interest Desk:  Catering.  If you were to make dinner for Professor Snape for his birthday what would be on the menu?   Would it be a lavish multi-course meal with sweet figs and roasted meats, and red wine topped of with a selection of the world's amazing cheeses or would you drop a sandwich by his door and run?

Leave a comment and give me something entertaining to read.

This is Rockinsticks signing off for another Friday.  Party on snakes.

Weekend Report

In our Top Story this week - attitude.  Our outstanding chick with the Prefect Badge and keys to the Room of Requirement, Abycat has introduced the dungeon to the concept of “Kiss my Sticks!”  Slytherin crafters far and wide are embracing new robes with the saying and are finding that 2011 indeed is the year of knitting with attitude.
As if legimenically connected our professors have provided us with many an opportunity to do just that.  Simply look at Transfiguration where its all about you and your library.  What was your favorite book?  Do you want to knit a Wandering the Moors shawl to commemorate Wuthering Heights (wait that was my  idea), or maybe a Wild Thing sweater to show your inner child the way out.
Flying is nothing but freedom this month.  Something warm or something that meets your animal urges, um I mean uses animal fiber.  Absolutely fabulous time to work up a heavier weight shawl like Snowflake for yourself of course.
DADA gives you the opportunity to pamper your ears or feet.  Maybe these Las Calacas Socks  or a We Call Them Pirates Hat.   Not so sure, pick a pattern and take it to your snake nest.  I’ll bet someone can come up with an outstanding made up hex to sell it.
Potions couldn’t fit the Kiss my Sticks theme more.  Its all about invigorating you.  Maybe yoga is your thing and these yoga socks would fit the bill.  However should you experience invigoration lasting more than four hours seek medical attention – just ask Vox8.
Divination similar to Potions is about your future this month.  What is it going to be like this year?  What do you want to accomplish?  Maybe work up a little project bag that would allow you to knit on your walks to get fit.  I’ll just stay here on the sofa and watch.
Charms is another excuse to knit for you.  Under the guise of getting to know a first year, or at least their project pages, you get to pick something to knit hopefully for you.
Speaking of first years History of Magic has us unsorting ourselves.  Four houses is a great opportunity to try out making a pieced baby blanket.    Or maybe this House Unity Scarf.   If your just not feeling the unity thing how about a pirate hat  I made one of these for my husband last summer and it is truly awesome and fast fast fast.
Herbology  is all about fun or maybe using herbological methods to find your spirit animal (totally not encouraged - trust me).  What is fun for you?  Yeah, not gonna go there – you are on your own for this one.

This rash of stick kissing is expected to last throughout 2011.  Slytherins are urged to not seek treatment and let it run its course.
Weather:  A soft haze of mohair and #8s will be settling over the valley this week.
In Sports Quidditch season came in with a fury this week.  It looks like the best of the best challenges are this terms game plan.  Slytherin's team captain Snowqueen73 will be pulling us through charity crafting and three challenges including the hat challenge coming up Saturday January 22nd.  Also note team robes should be worn on the fifteenth of every month.  Remember, in Slytherin, everyone's a chaser.  If you are afraid of the challenges just get out there and submit something you've knit for charity.  You'll feel good, we'll get points, someone out there in the world will benefit.
Speaking of charity knitting if you are able to fit a chemo cap into a class, quidditch or just because you find Ultimate Quest totally unchallenging the HOH challenge is all about hats and also helping out a fellow house cupper.  Even if you choose not to send your cap to our Ravenclaw friend cancer centers in every community accept such donations.
Forgivable Curse of the Week:  Mother-felter.
In the Hallows and Horcruxes Lab Tigersjp, Deadalchemist, Dangerouscurves, Crazyredheadchick, & Knitmainea all celebrated birthdays this week.
Finally from the sub-human interest desk - first years.  Tell me first years, what do you think of all this?  Is the craziness everything you hoped it would be?  Too much?  Barely a challenge?  Leave a comment and tell us about your experience so far.
That's it for me.  Keep slithering strong my sinuous ones.  This is Rockinsticks signing out until next Friday.

Weekend Report

Greetings. I'm Rockinsticks and this is ........... Weekend Report.
The top story this week is of course the posting of a new slew of classes. Are you ready to craft your defenses against the undead, take a trip backward or forward in time, maybe spend a little time chatting with the ghosts of Hogwarts? Aren't we lucky (wink wink nudge nudge) that our Slytherin Unity theme this month just happens to be Zombies v. Humans.

Do you support the undead or wish to defend mankind against them? I'm a "if you can't beat them join them" kindda gal so I've joined team zombie and have crafted something zombirific.

Those of you opting for team human - craft something that will combat zombies. We will be doing a mass posting of these projects between Octotober 28th and 31st.

Weather - A light smattering of laceweight is predicted for Monday evening with stitch marker sized hail.

In sports - Quidditch is still on. Remember kids - one quidditch project is worth the same points as a class project, so if you're feeling a little meh about classwork take a little zip around the pitch in our or any other house colors to clear your head and pull some points in.

Our first October Wildlife Review is extremely triumphant. All hail Mkissa, Peanutzmom, Dusillawormwood, Folk, Knitsquid and Eurekas who all submitted their 50% OWLs this week. You have inspired me to pick mine up again despite the nip in the nether regions it gave me two weeks ago.

Speaking of OWL disenchantment, you have until October 15th (yes, next Friday) to post a change request.

Forgivable Curse of the week - Son of a stitch!

I'm sure my fellow snakes will not be cursing Abycat and Peanutzmom who have organized two separate and delightful swaps to cheer us all up. If you signed up for either the Slytherin Yule Exchange or the Slytherin Pride Swap keep your eyes open for owls with pms announcing your intended giftee.

And lastly from our sub-human interest desk I'm going to abuse my powers as blog reporter and try to con my fellow snakes into doing my homework this week.

As you know Divination class is taking us to the realms of tassomancy and scrying this month. Well I tried scrying with a bowl of vodka but it kept disappearing so here is my tea leaf photo. What do you see? Leave a comment and let me know what you see in my knitting future.
Signing off and saying slither on my sinuous pals.

The Weekend Report

Hi Snakes! Welcome to October in the House Cup! This is Julia and it's time for another Weekend Report...

Along with a new month come new classes and a new House Unity Theme. This month we're asking that all-important question: how would you survive the Zombie Apocalypse? Would you fight back the zombie hordes with the human survivors? Or would you join the growing ranks of the undead? Humans and zombies will battle it out this month with mass project turn-ins during the last weekend in October, Thursday Oct. 28th - Sunday Oct. 31st. Seakame is talking bonus point strategy and collecting project ideas in the Unity thread. My favorite suggestion so far? A severed monster finger that doubles as a chapstick cozy! Great project find, Sea-Jelly!

The human and zombie armies are amassing all over the Cup, so choose your side, choose your class and see who comes out alive! (and don't forget your project tags! “Slyzombie” and “slyocttheme” for the zombie hordes; “Slyhuman” and “slyocttheme” for the human surivors)

The new class assignments have been posted for three days now. I've been so inspired by all the prompts that I'm convinced the professors have been secretly plotting behind my back, trying to make me forget all about working on my O.W.L. by plying me with new project ideas and clever challenges...honestly, do they have no shame? If I didn't think that trying to invent a working time-turner would cut way into my knitting time I'd be all over that.

If you have yet to be caught in the professors' devious web of inspiration, keep an eye on Fosterson's Slytherin Study Hall to get a class by class breakdown of October and find great ideas for class projects.

Also, just a reminder - O.W.L. midterm points will be awarded at the end of this month! Post a pic showing that you're halfway done by 11:59pm PST on Oct. 31st to get your 50 midterm points.

In other Dungeon news, Abycat is hosting a Slytherin Pride Swap! Fill a package with one skein of yarn plus one extra goodie (<$10.00). Send it off to your swap partner and then wait anxiously by your mailbox to see what awesomeness you get in return. Sign up by October 9th if you want to participate.

And now for Quidditch! Slytherin totally rocked the Pride challenge and scored 1290 points! Dreamy Jamie broke down the point earnings here. There were 46 Pride projects and 200 cheers! You can see LNS's Pride Project montage here or in the header of the Quidditch thread in The Dungeons!

In other exciting Quidditch news, Rockinsticks has been nominated for a prize for her (cute cute cute) Snake Mittens! Congratulations Rockinsticks!

Looking for more Slytherin fun? The Ravelwealth Games are just starting up and Team Slytherin is playing to win! Based on the Commonwealth Games (...yeah, I had to look them up due to not actually living in a commonwealth nation...) the Ravelwealths are essentially a smaller version of the Ravelympics. The Games run from Oct. 3 - Oct. 14, so bring your wips or cast on a new project and join in the fun!

HAVE A GREAT WEEK, SNAKES!

The Weekend Report

This is Julia reporting...

By now I'm sure everyone is aware of the big changes that swept through Slytherin and the House Cup this week. It's been a difficult time for all of us as we've lost some great friends and talented crafters from the game. But, as challenging and confusing as this week has been, not everything that happened was negative and I can't help but reflect on all the positives that grew out of such a trying situation. Everyone's favorite Race Car Driver-Loving Seventh Year, GirlyWithATwist, has been named our new Head of House and Fosterson the Great and Powerful has been promoted to Hogwarts Groundskeeper. The Slytherin Dungeon is still going strong and Scarlettb and Katie are there, being more awesome than ever, and the Crazy A's are now even crazier with fun new Challenges for everyone. We have a new organizational group for the House Cup called The Dungeons and it's absolutely filled with Hotties, plotting, and fabulousness; I've especially enjoyed the Every Slytherin for Themselves thread - check it out if you haven't seen it yet! Out of everything, though, my favorite part of this past week has been the overwhelming support we've received from all the other Houses. The Hufflepuffs have us drowning in muffins, the Gryffindors brought us hotties, and the Ravenclaws invited us along on a bank heist. The spirit of House Unity is obvious all around the Cup and I hope it's been as inspirational for all of you as it has been for me.

I know we'll come out of this recent difficulty as a better and stronger Slytherin. Our House Cup ambitions remain as exalted and lofty as ever so let's do our best to Win Back that Cup!

In Quidditch news, our Slytherin Pride days begin exactly ONE WEEK FROM TODAY so start planning those house color projects and cheering posts! The Pride Challenge lasts through the 27th and pattern suggestions for small projects are being collected in the Quidditch thread in The Dungeons. Projects made for the Pride challenge must be done in House Colors and are exempt from the general quidditch rule that all projects must be garments - so anything goes!

Need help with a Quidditch Cheer? Check out the Slytherific Ravatars thread for graphics help, or head on over to the Scarlett's Army Quidditch thread for more ideas.

Linuxchic and Rockinsticks are collecting thoughts about what being in Slytherin means to you - post your own perspective here by the 18th of November to help them put together a great Slytherin Quidditch essay!

Slytherins have been hard at work this week crafting projects and turning in homework, proposing OWLS and slaving away on those NEWTS.

To date there have been:

11 History of Magic projects
14 Arithmancy projects
25 Herbology projects
25 Charms projects
17 Transfiguration projects
11 DADA projects
22 Potions projects
11 Flying projects

and 86 Slytherins have been approved to start their OWLS.

There are 13 days until the end of September which means you have 13 days left to get an OWL proposal together if you're considering one!

Also! There are several staff positions in the Main Cup available for Slytherins - second years and above, go here to apply!

HAVE A GREAT WEEKEND, SNAKES!
